Welcome to the Master’s Programme in Chemistry at Uppsala University!
Whether you were a Bachelor’s student from Uppsala University or an international student, we are very happy to welcome you to the Chemistry Department!
This short introduction will cover some information about Registration, Campus Card,MER reception and some General tips to help you get started.
Registration
Registration will take place this year on 25 August at 10:20 AM in room C8:301 at Campus BMC.
Registration is mandatory in order to start the programme and is also a great opportunity to meet your fellow coursers. The Head fo the Chemistry Master’s Programme will be there to introduce themselves, as well as some members of our student board. You can recognize us by our burgundy hoodies and burgundy lab coats, and you are more than welcome to contact if you have any questions. You can also find information about who is on the board under the “About Us” tab.
Campus Card
The Campus Card is your personal access card, together with an associated PIN code. You will use it to access university buildings in the evenings and on weekends, use the university’s printers, borrow books from the university library, and more.
Campus Cards are usually issued by the campus administration offices at the information desks on campus. There are generally two ways to get your card: you can either order it online using a one-time code that you have probably received by email and then collect it, for example, from the Card and Key Service Desk at Ångström. Alternatively, you can go directly to the service desk, have your photo taken, and receive the card on the spot.
During the introduction period, it is also possible that older students will accompany groups of new students to the service desk and help them get their Campus Cards.
The university’s printers are equipped with card readers for Campus Cards. The first time you use a printer, you will need to register your Campus Card in order to print.
To use your Campus Card as a library card, you also need to link it to the university library’s system. This can be done online through the university library’s website.
Once you have received your Campus Card, make sure to carry it with you whenever you are in university buildings during evenings and weekends. During these times, only students and employees are allowed to be in the buildings, and security guards may occasionally ask you to show your Campus Card to verify that you are authorized to be there.
MER-Reception
The Master- and Exchange Reception (MER) is a welcoming event organised by the Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students (UTN) for Master’s and exchange students within science and technology programmes.
The MER reception is a great opportunity to meet other new students from Sweden and around the world, make new friends, and get introduced to student life in Uppsala. The reception is followed by several activities where you can get to know Uppsala, meet other students, and learn more about life as a student in Sweden.
If you are new to Uppsala, we highly recommend taking part in MER! It is a fun and easy way to meet people outside your programme and start building your social network before the semester gets fully underway.

General tips
Finding Your Way Around Campus
Whether your Master’s programme is based at BMC or the Ångström Laboratory, it is easy to get a little lost at first, and finding the right lecture hall can sometimes be tricky!
Many students use MazeMap to find their way around campus. Simply enter the location of your next class in the search bar, and it will help you navigate to the correct building or lecture hall. It is a great way to get familiar with the campus before heading to class, especially at BMC, which can feel a little like a maze at times!
